Hey guys, do you have a Mac in your home? I know a lot of you do, you’ve been asking, so today we’re gonna take a look at how you set up child accounts on your Mac. We’re gonna help you be a better digital parent in just one minute.
So, to create an account for your child, on a Mac, using the built-in parental controls, first we’ll have to go under system preferences. You can select your little Apple menu, go to system preferences. Now, once this launches, you’ll see that we have a yellow icon here, for parental controls. When we click on this option, we’re now able to go in and either create a new user account with parental controls, or convert this account to a parental controls account. Now for us, we’re here in an admin account, that would be your account as the parent, and we’re gonna say, create a new user account with parental controls. Now, we’ll have to enter in our password, and we’re going to then, unlock these controls.
Now, the first option you get is to select an age range. I have a daughter who’s seven, so I’m just gonna pretend that I’m creating this account for her, I’ll keep it at 4+. So in this case, we’ll just go ahead and create a sample child account, and then we’ll have to actually go in, and enter in a password for them as well. Once we enter in this password, and we hit create user, it’s now going to actually go through the process of creating a user account. Once this account is created, with parental controls, we’re then able to go in and turn on and off a lot of settings like, for example, using the camera.
