Can your kids pull up Netflix and watch House of Cards when you aren’t around? If you haven’t setup the Netflix parental controls, the answer to this question is yes! In today’s video, you can learn everything you need to know about these controls in about a minute.
Now, Netflix is the leader in streaming video. They have apps on smartphones and tablets and Blu-ray players and televisions. Thankfully, Netflix provides a way for you to ensure that you can keep your kid from launching something that’s beyond their maturity level. Let’s take a look at how it works.
To enable the parental controls on Netflix, you first need to navigate to your account page. In the settings section, click the parental controls option. Next, select the option to create pin. Enter a four-digit pin and then select the level of allowed content, which can be accessed without the pin. In this case, content for older kids and up is protected by the pin. Be sure to save these settings.
The pin is required to truly protect your kids from any objectionable content. Netflix also provides some level of customization per profile but if any user can change profiles, this approach doesn’t provide enough protection.
However, we can make sure that the profile that your kids use, only shows content within the acceptable ratings. Next, from the account page, select the option to manage profiles. Next, select the profile that your kids use to watch Netflix. Be sure to select the allowed TV shows and movies to the correct value for your children. Select save.
With these settings in place, you can limit your children’s ability to find objectionable content and make sure that they can only watch content that is appropriate for their age.
